Together on Tuesdays 13.10.20

I don’t expect that many of us have been thinking about the organisation of the church during the last few months. But at the beginning of September, Greenock and Paisley Presbytery joined with Dumbarton Presbytery to form Clyde Presbytery. So when we look out across the river we see places which are now part of our Presbytery.
And, yes, it is OUR Presbytery. Many of us in the church see Presbytery as a distant organisation which comes in and tells us what we can and can’t do, whether that is repairs to our buildings, whether we can have a new minister in a vacancy, or even whether our church can remain open. So many of us don’t have a very good picture of Presbytery.

But Presbytery is us. Us and our neighbouring churches, Wellpark Mid Kirk, Mount Kirk, St Margaret’s, St Ninian’s. Lyle Kirk, Old Gourock and Ashton, St John’s and all the other churches from Barrhead to Skelmorlie, Arrochar to Bearsden, and everywhere in between. All the Church of Scotland congregations which line the banks of the Clyde.
We are all part of the one church, worshipping God together, trying to live out our lives as followers of Jesus, wherever God has placed us in His Presbytery. We are all one – together. Let’s learn from each other, support each other and work together for God’s Kingdom here.

God of organisations, we pray for our Presbytery, for all our congregations, all our ministers, all our members. Help us to work together in Your service. Amen.
