General Assembly 2009 opened on Thursday 21st May when the Rev. W.C. Hewitt was elected to be  Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Subsequent to his Induction, he is now addressed as the Right Rev. until his moderatorial year ends with the election of a successor. As a former moderator, he will be referred to as the Very Rev.

dscf3066gedc1015To witness this historic occasion, approximately 50 people from the congregation of Westburn Church left Greenock at 7.15am and travelled to the Assembly Halls in Edinburgh.

They attended the Opening Ceremonies then left at lunchtime to return home stopping for lunch at the Woodside Bistro and Steakhouse on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Another 50 members and friends made their own travel arrangements to attend the Opening Ceremonies and the Moderator’s Reception in the evening.
