Sanctuary Heating System

looking-to-the-rearchancel-11Renovation work in the lower halls of the Church identified water leaks that were traced back to the cast iron pipes forming the heating system in the Sanctuary.

Further investigation, together with a Survey Report, led to a recommendation from the Property Committee to the Kirk Session that the only practical way forward was for the existing heating system to be replaced with a new energy efficient system. This was endorsed by the Executive Committee and agreed by the Kirk Session.

Largely due to the ‘A’ Listing of our building, much work and consultation has been put into preparation of a Specification to enable the work to be put out to tender. In due course this was done and a contractor weas appointed to carry out the work

To allow preliminary work to commence, the Kirk Session agreed that following worship on Sunday 20th September we would transfer to the main hall where worship would be held until installation of the new heating system has been completed.

From Sunday 27th September until Sunday 6th December 2009, Services were held in the Church Hall while work associated with the new system was progressed in the Sanctuary.

On Sunday 13th December 2009, we returned to worship in a very comfortable enviroment.

Early in 2010 and with the generousity of a legacy provided from the estate of the late Miss Margaret Todd,  new carpet and cushion pews were provided throughout the lower Sanctuary.
